Extended Scrolling: November 3, 2023
Greetings, Extended Family! Here are a ten things that we're digging this week at The Extended Play Podcast:
Music:
Spanish-speaking radio listener wants to hear that song with the line “Are those Reebok or Nike?” We admit we never saw it coming.
New DJ Shadow came out last week. All instrumental. Definitely ‘80s/’90s-flavored. Need to spend more time with it.
Random discovery: Wes Borland, guitarist from Limp Bizkit, makes solo instrumental records. Listening to this year’s “Mutiny on the Starbarge” as we compose this newsletter. Solid.
E and Mrs. E are seeing The Hives at a small club in Detroit on Saturday. Can’t. Wait.
It’s November, which means it’s time for holiday music. Honestly intrigued by the My Morning Jacket Christmas album.
Related: At La Casa de E, it’s Vince Guaraldi Trio all day, every day.
Not sure if E’s mentioned the Jazz is Dead series on the pod, but it’s pretty spectacular. They posted this clip of Bill Evans from 1966 on Instagram the other day. Fantastic stuff.
Collaboration between some of our hosts’ favorite artists: Dave Grohl performed “Satanist” with boygenius on Halloween. Too bad there’s not better video.
From the Episodes:
Pod favorite Busta Rhymes illustrates the competitive nature of hip hop via a story about collaborating with Eminem. That’s what we’re talking about. (From Season 3, Episode 1 - “Hip-Hop, Part 1.”)
Downside of the Playlist Challenge: earworms of songs that are not even close to being good and also have the most ‘00s video ever.
Wonder if the band logo will be in this Cannibal Corpse coloring book. (From this week’s episode - “Fandom.”)
That’s it for this week.
