Extended Scrolling: December 1, 2023
HO HO HO Extended Family! It’s E back with another list of ten things that we're digging this week at The Extended Play Podcast:
Music:
Thrilled about the surprise Tweedy Show this week! If you’re not familiar, during the pandemic Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) and his family started streaming live performances from their living room in Chicago. They still do it from time to time, but with little warning. Comforting vibes.
Glad I didn’t see this epic Wheel of Fortune fail live. Pretty sure I would’ve jumped through the screen and flipped the wheel.
It’s the time of year for “Best of 2023” lists. Rolling Stone just posted theirs. I can hear Tank screaming from here.
Vaporwave Vanessa Carlton. Beautiful. Seriously though, does anyone remember Hit Clips? I didn’t.
Proud that Kelly Clarkson took time to signal boost Bloc Party just after I did. Definitely the most famous member of The Extended Family.
It took this random clip of Beabadoobee covering Aimee Mann’s “Save Me” for me to remember what an incredible song (and album) it is.
Little Steven from The E Street Band and The Sopranos created a rock music school curriculum?! Makes me wish I was back in the classroom. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
From the Episodes:
Huge bummer that The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan passed away this week. I’ll be listening to “Fairytale of New York” even more this holiday season. 😔 (From this week’s episode - “Holidays.”)
This Andre 3000 flute album is going to be news for months. Apparently he can now say that he has the longest ever song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s the first song on the album - “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make a “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.” Makes me wonder how many people make it to the second song. (From our “Shift” episode.)
That’s it for this week.
